Moon Palace Resort

This past November, I was fortunate enough to be 1 of 50 travel agents chosen to attend the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande FAM trip. I was understandably excited because I had never been to Ocho Rios or a Palace resort and knew I would be part of a one-of-a kind experience with the Palace Foundation.

My experience at the resort was incredible! I knew I was home from the moment I was greeted with a friendly smile, a flower, a cold drink and a cold towel immediately upon arrival. This resort took care of every small detail. No request was too big and they went above and beyond to ensure that my trip was truly memorable.

The Palace resorts are a highly rated luxury brand in Mexico and have now expanded their brand to Jamaica. The Moon Palace Jamaica Grande spent millions of dollars renovating what was once known as the Sunset Jamaica Grande resort. They have completely transformed this space and “Palace-ified” it into a 700 room luxury all-inclusive dream. They’ve thought of every aspect that will make your experience outstanding.

Here are the 10 reasons why you need to book your next holiday at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande:

1.Food is AWE-MAZING!

Without overselling it in the least, the food can be described as incredible mouth-watering fine dining goodness. My appetite was in love (if such a thing is possible) from the first to the last bite. Every morning I indulged at their exotic fruit buffet accompanied by something from their omelet station or enjoyed their authentic Jamaican Ackee and Saltfish breakfast; while quenching my thirst with a mimosa and embracing the beautiful ocean view. I can’t think of a better way to start any day.

FYI: the Ackee and Saltfish got the stamp of approval from the Jamaican travel agents in our group.

My favorite a la carte restaurant was the Teppanyaki table called MoMos. I was so addicted that I went two days in a row to indulge on the sushi, spring rolls and steak teriyaki that was cooked to perfection. The chef’s go out of their way to absorb you in an entertaining, colorful cooking performance at the Teppanyaki tables. On one night a few of the staff joined the chef and sang us a sweet melody during dessert.
For my seafood lovers, the Palace resorts seafood beach restaurant will have you kissing the chef before you’ve even had a chance to try dessert. To top it all off, this restaurant had, hands down, the BEST crab cakes I have ever had in my life.

I love a good espresso, so I was a big fan of the 24-hour cafe. They made the best espresso and nutella crepes. The crepes definitely hit the spot for many after a night at the disco.

Last but not least, this resort offered 24-hour room service and the food was delicious. I ordered grilled Mahi-mahi with rice along with a Greek salad one night, and Jerk chicken another. A great feature that they’ve implemented for feedback is an ability to review the menu on your LCD TV and I was consistently impressed that I never waited for more than 30 mins for my order.

I could go on and on, but really and truly this resort lives up to what they promise; World Class Dining.

2. CHI Products in your room

Each room has a bottle of shampoo, conditioner, a hair dryer and a straightener. Need I say anymore!

3.$1,500 Resort Credit

This is the number 1 reason that sets the Palace apart from any other resort brand. They offer a $1,500 resort credit for 5 to 8 night packages booked in any room category and it can be used as CASH! To give you an idea of how awesome this credit is, you can use it towards spa/beauty services, gift shop, golf, scuba diving lessons, tours, dolphin swim, romantic dinners and even wedding packages. This resort credit takes your typical all-inclusive resort experience to the next level.

4.Great Location

Moon Palace is located 5 minutes from the town of Ocho Rios, which is awesome for those of you looking to mix your resort experience with local life.

More importantly, you are 10 minutes from the famous Dunn’s River Falls and Mystic Mountain. If you have never climbed the falls, without a doubt this is an excursion you must experience. Just don’t forget to bring your water shoes!

And for my reggae lovers, Ocho Rios has a great night life! Be sure to check in with the front desk for details on what’s going on each night… your feet and hips will thank you later!

5.Families! Families! Families!

I can guarantee the minute your kids see the water park, flow rider, non-motorized watersports, the playroom and the teen’s club you will never hear a complaint from your youngsters for the duration of the trip. A question I kept asking myself during the site inspection was “Is this only for kids?” Or “Can adults come too?” What can I say; the youth amenities are outstanding. The playroom is equipped with a jungle gym, cooking station, video games, air hockey and so much more. The teen’s club had an awesome lounge where movies and sports were playing, as well as video games, air hockey and snack bar. Last but not least, the flow rider will have your teens learning how to surf and the water park will keep your little ones busy for hours. Not for one minute will you have to worry about your children being bored here.

6. Free WI-FI everywhere and international calls to Canada, USA, Mexico and within Jamaica

I was so impressed that the Moon Palace offered free WI-FI throughout the entire resort and that the signal strength was great. It allowed me to share all my experiences with my friends at home and show them what the resort had to offer.

I usually never call anyone when I am on vacation, but when I heard FREE international calls? I just felt compelled to call my long lost auntie, my father to ask about the weather and a friend to see how work was going …kidding! I mean, I did think about calling everyone for a quick minute, but I did the sensible thing and headed to the beach instead.

7.Spa

I love the name of the spa at the Moon Palace. Named the “AWE Spa”; I swear that was the exact the feeling I had when I walked in. A few of the incredible services you can choose from are: a sacred hot stone massage, a tropical Caribbean body scrub, a chamomile wrap and so much more. In addition to your spa services, they recommend you enjoy a complimentary hour hydrotherapy treatment before your appointment. This place truly had me in AWE!

8.Beautiful Wedding Gazebo

When considering a destination wedding or vow renewal in Jamaica, the Moon Palace should now be your top choice. This resort can accommodate both intimate and large weddings, up to 400 in their ballroom. Also, the wedding coordinator at this resort has 8 years of experience hosting weddings.

9.Rooms

I absolutely loved my room! My top 3 favorite things in my room were: the rain shower that was spacious enough to house an entire family, my bed that brought me to pillow heaven and the spectacular view. Let’s not forget all of the additional amenities that added to my wonderful stay such as turn down service, a liquor dispenser, a mini bar, a bottle of red wine upon arrival, an iPod dock, purified water, CHI products, controlled air conditioning, bathrobes, slippers and a digital safe.

10.Palace Foundation

I have immense respect for a brand that is socially responsible. The Palace brand is focused on giving back to balance their ecological footprint. All of the agents at the Palace resorts worked together to bring early Christmas gifts to the children that attended St. Christopher’s School for the Deaf; the only school of its kind in Jamaica. What was planned as a 2-hour visit, ended up as an 8-hour day of pure joy. I truly had a wonderful time getting to know the children, playing with them and just being part of their world for a moment. I definitely left a part of my heart in Jamaica.
